Best Clothing for Surviving Hot and Humid Weather

Jennifer Gaeng

Yesterday

Summer brings those brutal days when stepping outside feels like walking into a furnace. The air gets so thick and sticky that even breathing takes effort. Hot weather clothing becomes more than a fashion choice during these sweltering months - it turns into survival gear that can prevent serious health problems.

How Bodies Fight Back Against Heat

Human bodies are pretty amazing cooling machines. When temperatures rise, skin starts producing sweat - lots of it. That moisture doesn't just sit there looking gross. It actually serves a purpose by evaporating and pulling heat away from the body in the process.

But here's the catch: this system only works when air can move around freely and when sweat has somewhere to go. Trap that moisture against skin with the wrong clothes, and the whole cooling process breaks down. Bodies can produce nearly a quart of sweat every hour during extreme heat - that's enough to fill a large coffee mug four times over! No wonder dehydration happens so fast during summer heat waves.
