2 Dead, 10 Injured in U.S. Steel Plant Explosion

12 hours agoA powerful explosion ripped through the Clairton Coke Works, part of U.S. Steel's Mon Valley on Monday morning around 10:51am.
The blast occurred between the 13th and 15th coke batteries in a cinder-block control area, and was quickly followed by a second explosion that shook buildings nearby and filled the sky with thick smoke.
Two Dead in Explosion
The explosion claimed two lives. One worker was reported dead initially, while the other was found dead during search and rescue efforts. Ten more were found injured. Five workers were hospitalized in critical yet stable condition, and the rest were treated and released.
One of the deceased has been identified as 39-year old, Timothy Quinn, a long-time employee and father of three. His colleagues remembered him as "a good dude" who always smiled.
