The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season is officially in the rearview mirror. The season came to its formal close on Sunday, November 30, ending on a quiet note that was a representation of the season as a whole. The Atlantic basin saw four major hurricanes among its 13 named storms. Here is a look back at the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season.

Saving the Worst for Last

It has often been said that all it takes is one big hurricane to turn an otherwise benign season on its head. That is exactly what happened this year when the monstrous Category 5 Melissa became one of the most impactful storms in years after a relatively quiet season.

Hurricane Melissa made its first landfall in western Jamaica, triggering billions of dollars in losses. The storm was blamed for over 90 fatalities in Jamaica and Haiti. Melissa was distinguished as the strongest hurricane to ever come ashore in Jamaica, smashing the old record held by Hurricane Gilbert from 1988.
