It is the time of the year when meteorologists begin thinking about the upcoming tropical weather season. While the Eastern Pacific hurricane season officially kicks off on May 15, the Atlantic hurricane season does not start until June 1. With the start of both seasons approaching quickly, this is a good opportunity to look at this year's list of predetermined storm names. Here is a look at what names have been tapped for both the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific basins for the upcoming season.

2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season Names

The Atlantic hurricane naming list for 2026 begins with Arthur and continues alphabetically through Wilfred, covering storms that develop in the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico. (NOAA/NHC)

Each new season comes with a fresh set of names for each tropical storm and hurricane over the course of the year. The Atlantic basin is where most tropical weather events that impact the U.S. originate. As such, this is where most eyes will be trained in the months ahead. The Atlantic naming list covers all named storms that come to life in the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf.

The 2026 list of names for the Atlantic basin includes 21 names appearing in alphabetical order. There are no names beginning with the letters Q, U, X, Y, and Z. Arthur will kick off the names in 2026, followed by Bertha and Cristobal. The other names on the 2026 Atlantic hurricane list are Dolly, Edouard, Fay, Gonzalo, Hanna, Isaias, Josephine, Kyle, Leah, Marco, Nana, Omar, Paulette, Rene, Sally, Teddy, Vicky, and Wilfred.
