Chattanooga was hit by a staggering amount of rain Tuesday night. Over 6 inches of rain flooded the region, making it the city’s second-wettest day on record. The storm unleashed flash flooding across Hamilton County and eastern Tennessee, prompting emergency response.

3 Dead and 1 Person Missing

In East Ridge, just after midnight, a large tree collapsed onto a vehicle carrying a family of three. A mother, father, and child were killed in the collapse. Meanwhile, a man who attempted to cross flooded East Brainerd Road on foot remains missing. Search efforts are ongoing.

Rescue Operations Hampered by Conditions

Floodwaters forced rescue crews into action across the region. Swiftwater teams rescued residents from stranded vehicles and flooded homes in East Ridge, using inflatable boats and coordinated responses. Traffic ground to a halt as portions of Interstate 24 were submerged before reopening once the waters receded.
