1. The Hailstone Bigger Than a Softball
Vivian, South Dakota got hammered by a record-breaking hailstone on July 23, 2010. This ice ball measured 8 inches in diameter, weighed 1.93 pounds, and had a circumference of 18.62 inches - officially the largest hailstone ever recorded in the United States.
The National Weather Service documented this monster, which required updrafts of incredible strength to stay aloft long enough to grow that massive. Most hailstones are pea-sized, making this softball-plus beast absolutely incredible.
