Weather gets absolutely bonkers sometimes, and these officially documented records prove Mother Nature has a seriously twisted sense of humor. These aren't your typical temperature records - these are bizarre weather events that actually happened and seem out of this world.

1. The Hailstone Bigger Than a Softball

Vivian, South Dakota got hammered by a record-breaking hailstone on July 23, 2010. This ice ball measured 8 inches in diameter, weighed 1.93 pounds, and had a circumference of 18.62 inches — officially the largest hailstone ever recorded in the United States. The National Weather Service documented the full event, including the extraordinary updraft conditions required to keep a stone that massive airborne.
