A 700-Pound Great White Shark Is Swimming Off the Florida Gulf Coast Right Now

And she's not alone.

Just in time for spring break, a 10-foot, 729-pound great white shark named Bella has been tracked off the coast of Sarasota, and OCEARCH data shows she has plenty of company in the Gulf.

Bella pinged twice in two days near Sarasota, most recently on Sunday afternoon. The juvenile female made the journey from her tagging site in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, last July, traveling down the entire U.S. East Coast, around the tip of Florida, through the Straits of Florida, and into the Gulf. A trek of more than 4,200 miles in roughly eight months.
