One of Alaska's biggest cities has a problem on its hands. Heading into the depths of winter, the city of Juneau is struggling to remove snow as the flakes continue to fly at record levels. Here is a look at what is happening in this corner of the country after a record-breaking December snow.

Juneau Struggles with Snow Removal After Record-Breaking December Storms

Over 6 feet of snow was notched in Juneau, Alaska, over the course of December. The record-breaking snow is causing a host of issues, with more of the wintry precipitation threatening to complicate the problem even further. Residents are running out of room to put the cleared snow, leading to collapsed roofs and sinking boats. Several vehicles have also been completely buried by the massive amount of snow.

More snow began to fall across Juneau on Wednesday, prompting the City and Borough of Juneau and Central Council of the Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska to issue a local disaster declaration. Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy also issued a state disaster declaration, releasing emergency and operational resources for the recovery and preparation efforts.

For now, the city is using industrial-size snow blowers to move the snow into the back of semi-trucks. The trucks then transport the snow to parking lots and other areas.
