A surge of heat will roll across the eastern U.S. next week, raising the risk of wildfires across the parched terrain. Read on for an early look at what to expect next week in this part of the country.

Summerlike Heat Will Spread Across the Eastern U.S. Next Week

Temperatures will near record territory across the East Coast next week as a surge of summerlike heat grips the region. Do not let the fluctuating temperatures in the Northeast this weekend fool you. A big change is on the way beginning next week as warmth builds from the south to the north.

A slight taste of this warmth will come to the Northeast on Friday before Mother Nature pulls back the temperatures slightly over the weekend. For example, after enjoying highs in the low 70s on Friday, Philadelphia will slip back into the mid 60s on Saturday and Sunday.

The unseasonably warm temperatures will first expand throughout the southeastern U.S. before moving into the mid-Atlantic. The Midwest will also see the influx of warmer temperatures beginning on Sunday. This warmth will then push farther east, reaching the Northeast by the start of the new work week.

The threat of heavy rain and locally severe thunderstorms will keep a lid on the heat in some areas of the Upper Midwest and the northern reaches of the Northeast next week. However, areas to the south that dodge the rain will see a noticeable uptick in the mercury on Monday through Wednesday.

Washington, D.C. is forecast to see highs jump from the 70-degree mark on Sunday into the mid 80s on Monday. The mercury will hover near 90 degrees on Tuesday, before breaking into the 90s on Wednesday and Thursday. Plenty of sunshine will bring the real feel readings up even further.
