A slight tweak to the long-range forecast is signaling that April will be warmer than expected. Here is a look at the latest update about what to expect for temperatures and precipitation levels as the month of April kicks off.

April Outlook Calling for Above-Average Temperatures

A new update to a long-range outlook from Atmospheric G2 and The Weather Company is good news for those who are ready for warmer weather. Above-average temperatures are in the forecast for a large swath of the U.S., stretching from the Pacific Northwest to the Southwest, and to the east into the nation's heartland and the Southeast.

Temperatures will get progressively warmer when compared to the norm, moving from north to south. For example, while cities such as Seattle and Portland are only expecting temperatures to hit slightly above average, there will be a greater departure from the norm for areas such as Denver and Salt Lake City.

The 6- to 10-day outlook shows above-normal temperatures expanding across much of the western and southern U.S., while cooler trends linger across parts of the Northeast. (NOAA/CPC)

The Desert Southwest is forecast to sizzle in April, with average highs climbing well over what is typically expected this time of the year. The same will be true for the Southeast, the Gulf Coast, and Florida. Cities such as New Orleans, Atlanta, and Miami are all forecast to see the mercury inch up above the historical April average.

The only regions of the country expecting average temperatures as a whole for April are the Northeast, a slice of the northern Plains, the Upper Midwest, and the northern Great Lakes. Urban areas such as Minneapolis, Detroit, Boston, and New York City should prepare for temperatures to be slow to warm up this April.
