Axial Seamount’s Next Eruption Is Coming Soon

2 weeks agoYou may not even notice it while it happens, but a mile-long underwater volcano is showing all the signs of a large eruption soon in 2025. The Axial Seamount is located roughly 300 miles off the coast of Oregon and lies on the floor of the Pacific Ocean.
Signs are trending towards an inevitable eruption in 2025 that scientists are closely monitoring. As the most active submarine volcano in the northeast Pacific, it is closely watched by geologists and oceanographers alike. Luckily, the effects of an underwater eruption are far less than an eruption that occurs on land.
A Deep Dive Into Axial Seamount
Axial Seamount is the most active underwater volcano in the North Pacific and a key site for studying ocean geology. Located where two tectonic plates are spreading apart, it formed from an old hotspot and now sits on a mid-ocean ridge.
It features a large, rectangular crater and long volcanic rift zones. Its unusual shape, ongoing eruptions, and interaction with nearby seamounts make it one of the most fascinating and complex volcanic features beneath the ocean.
