Black Moon 2025: What to Expect This Weekend
Elena Martinez
Last weekThe moon carries many names depending on its phase and timing. August featured the full sturgeon moon, while earlier this year skywatchers enjoyed a blood moon during a lunar eclipse. You may also know the blue moon, which refers to the second full moon in a single month.
This weekend, however, brings something much rarer: a black moon—and unlike the others, you won’t see it at all.
When It Happens
The black moon will occur Friday night into the early hours of Saturday. The moon reaches its closest point to the sun at 2:06 a.m. ET Saturday, according to EarthSky.
