Bomb Cyclone Meets Polar Vortex: What’s About to Hit the East Coast

The Eastern Seaboard is bracing for a meteorological double whammy that has forecasters on high alert.

Fresh off a historic winter storm, another round of extreme weather is taking aim at the East Coast. This time, it’s a dangerous combination: a rapidly intensifying coastal storm paired with a sustained Arctic air invasion. Two terms are about to dominate weather discussions: Bomb Cyclone and Polar Vortex. Here’s what they mean and why this pattern matters.

Arctic Air Has Taken Root

Tampa meteorologist Jeff Berardelli issued a blunt warning this week: a legitimate bomb cyclone will form along the Eastern Seaboard by Sunday, dragging Arctic air deep into the South.

Temperature forecast shows widespread purple and blue colors indicating extreme cold across the central and eastern United States, with nighttime lows Monday dropping into the single digits and teens across much of the country as Arctic air takes root.
