Chances of Weekend Nor'easter Coming Into Clearer Focus
Christy Bowen
2 hours agoForecasters are growing more concerned that a nor'easter could develop by the end of the weekend, resulting in the fifth weekend of wintry impacts for the Northeast. The forecast models are getting clearer as the work week comes to a close. Here is what you need to know about this potential threat heading into the weekend.
Potential Nor'easter on Deck for the East Coast
A weekend snowstorm is taking aim at the northeastern corner of the U.S. The latest forecast models warn that the storm could rapidly intensify as it moves up the coast, creating slippery roads in a zone from West Virginia to the north into southern England. Unlike some of the other major storm events of this winter season, this particular weather maker may dump measurable snowfall throughout the most populated cities of the Interstate 95 corridor. Major urban areas such as New York City and Philadelphia are in the line of fire for some of the worst impacts.
The storm system is forecast to fire up late Saturday and linger through Monday before dissipating. This system is coming on the heels of a series of minor storm events that are bringing snow and ice to a large swath of the Midwest and the interior Northeast. The late-weekend storm is currently hammering California and the interior West. By Saturday, the remnants of the West Coast storm will be set up along the Gulf Coast. Here it will find the energy and moisture that it needs to regorganize before beginning to skirt the Atlantic coastline on Sunday.
