Christmas week is officially here. Will Santa deliver nice travel conditions or a lump of coal for those hitting the roads and the skies? Read on for the details of the Christmas week forecast.

What to Expect Christmas Week for the Central and Eastern U.S.

It is not setting up to be a particularly snowy holiday week. While this is bad news for those wishing for a White Christmas, it is good news for travelers. The cold and wintry weather pattern that distinguished the first few weeks of the month will retreat to the north, leaving warmer conditions. In fact, forecasters are predicting that it will be one of the warmest Christmases on record for at least a dozen U.S. states.

The continued strengthening of the polar vortex to the north is keeping the coldest air in Canada. Similarly, the strongest storms will remain anchored near the border of the U.S. and Canada. This will keep the worst of the weather locked over the northern U.S., with most of the snow falling across Canada.
