7 hours agoA budding coastal storm will slam parts of the East Coast in the coming days before moving into Atlantic Canada. Here is a look at this storm that is coming together quickly, threatening to get the week off to a rocky start for millions of Americans.
Coastal Storm Igniting Near the Carolinas
A coastal storm that is taking aim at the southeastern coastline will spell trouble for the Carolinas beginning on Monday. The heaviest bands of rain associated with this system are forecast to impact the coastal Carolinas, dumping 1 to 2 inches of storm before it zips along to the north. Forecasters are also warning that this storm could go through the process of bombogenesis by the time it reaches Atlantic Canada.
Bombogenesis is the term that forecasters use to describe a storm with a central pressure that falls at least 24 millibars within a period of 24 hours. The latest forecast models indicate that this storm's central pressure will dive from the upper 990s to the 940s in less than 24 hours. However, before "bombing out," the storm will impact a swath of the U.S. coastline before roaring into Newfoundland, Canada.
