Floodwaters swallowing entire neighborhoods are dangerous enough on their own. In Australia's Northern Territory, they come with an added terror: crocodiles.

Police issued urgent warnings on March 9 telling residents to stay out of the water as massive flooding inundated communities across the territory, displacing more than 1,000 people and triggering one of the largest emergency responses the region has seen in decades.

"There is crocs absolutely everywhere," said acting commander Shaun Gill of the Northern Territory Police. "Please don't go in the water. The message is quite clear."
