The snow drought is finally over for Denver. After 220 straight days of no measurable snow, the metro area recorded its first quantifiable accumulation of the season over the weekend. The forecast is calling for more snow in the near future. Here is a look at what you can expect in this part of the Rockies and the interior West in the days ahead.

Denver Snow Drought Ends with More Wintry Precipitation on the Way

Winter has arrived across the interior West and the Colorado Front Range. An influx of colder air has nudged its way into the region, pairing with a surge of energy from a storm to the north to support the development of wintry precipitation for Denver and beyond. The winter weather is expected to persist through next week across the Intermountain West and the Rockies.

Just under an inch of snow was reported by Saturday morning at Denver International Airport. While it was not a whopper of a winter storm, the accumulation was enough to break the snow drought. More snow was measured in the surrounding foothills to the west of the metro area. Prior to Saturday morning, you have to go back to April to find the last time that measurable snow was observed at the Denver airport.

Forecast maps show light snow spreading across the Denver metro and foothills, ending the city’s 220-day snow drought and ushering in several days of wintry weather across Colorado. (NOAA/NWS)
