The first snowfall of the season is right around the corner for millions of Americans in the Midwest and the Northeast. A surge of Arctic air will lay the groundwork for the flakes to fly beginning on Saturday and lingering through Tuesday. Read on for a more detailed look at when and where the snow is expected to fall.

First Snow of the Year Headed to Parts of the Midwest and the Northeast

Multiple rounds of snow are on deck for the Midwest and Northeast this weekend and into the early part of the work week. The event will mark the first widespread wintry weather of the year for most of the region. Forecasters are warning that road conditions could become dicey in some areas, particularly as motorists get acclimated to dealing with this type of weather again.

A shift in the jet stream early in the week will bring the cold air that is needed to support the snow. The second Alberta clipper of the week will dive to the southeast from Canada on Saturday and Sunday, moving along with the surge of Arctic air. The midweek clipper event was not a major snow producer. However, the storm did whip up the winds across the interior Northeast.
