The official start of the astronomical summer gets started today with a widespread heat wave in the eastern U.S. welcoming in the season. Forecasters are predicting that over 135 million Americans will feel the impacts of the first heat wave of the season for this part of the country. Here is what you need to know about what to expect in the coming days.

Widespread Heat Advisories Issued for Much of the Eastern U.S.

Several heat advisories have been put in place for the Northeast and beyond as temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s for the next few days. In addition to the Northeast, the Ohio Valley, the mid-Atlantic, and parts of New England will also see the temperatures continue the upward trajectory.

Residents have been provided with plenty of warning about the incoming heat. Meteorologists began predicting this heat wave a few weeks ago, putting people on alert about the unseasonably hot weather that is expected to hang on through the weekend. Complicating the sizzling temperatures is the longevity of this heat wave, putting pressure on power grids to keep up with the increasing demand as the extreme weather continues.
