You are not imagining it if it feels drier than usual this September. Much of the country is grappling with growing drought concerns, with the dry conditions expected to persist heading into the second half of September. Read on for more information about what parts of the U.S. are suffering the most from a lack of moisture.

Western U.S. Dealing with Worst Conditions

As is typical for this time of the year, the western U.S. is dealing with the worst drought conditions compared to other parts of the country. The drought has been worsening since the end of June throughout the region. The U.S. Drought Monitor detailed in June that just 51% of the West was under the designation of a drought. This percentage is now at 64% as a whole.

The drought is also deepening in the Pacific Northwest, specifically, Washington, northern Oregon, Idaho, and the western edge of Montana. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued a drought declaration for Washington state for a record third consecutive year.
