Drought Relief Spreading Across Central and Eastern U.S.
Christy Bowen
2 weeks agoIt is setting up to be a soggy stretch of days for the central and eastern U.S. as widespread downpours impact the region. While the moisture stream is good news for the growing drought in this part of the country, the magnitude of the rain may also create flooding concerns and travel disruptions. Here is a look at what you can expect through the end of the week as Mother Nature finally turns on the rain machine.
Much-needed Precipitation Spreading Across the Central and Eastern U.S.
Widespread rain is on tap for a large swath of the central and eastern U.S. this week. The precipitation will be welcomed in areas that have been grappling with building drought conditions. It was one of the driest ends to the summer season on record for the eastern third of the country.
The steady stream of moisture will help to green up browning lawns while also providing benefits to late-season crops. The lack of persistent rain has also accelerated the natural turning of the leaves throughout much of this region. Many of the stressed trees are already dropping their leaves due to the lack of moisture.
