Dry September Comes to a Close for Central and Eastern U.S.
The line of precipitation across the mid-Atlantic this week stopped short when it reached Washington, D.C., leaving the Northeast high and dry. It has also been a dry stretch of weather for the central part of the country as high pressure continues to dominate the weather pattern. This zone of high pressure anchored over the northeastern U.S. kept the tropical moisture churning across the Southeast before moving back out to sea.
The agricultural industry is seeing the compounding effects of the lack of moisture. Drought conditions are intensifying throughout the eastern half of the country, impacting crop production and the food supply for livestock.
