Snow and Severe Storms to Start the Week for Much of the Northern U.S.
A dynamic mix of thunderstorms, snow, and ice will create problems from the Plains to the Appalachians and the mid-Atlantic beginning late Monday. Slippery travel conditions will be the biggest headline across the northern fringe of the system. Meanwhile, the storm's southern flank will be under the gun for locally damaging thunderstorms.
The storm is expected to move down from the Rocky Mountains and into the Plains states throughout the day on Monday. The system will bring up moisture from the Gulf as it expands to the east, delivering widespread rain showers to a large part of the central Plains. The merger of the moisture with colder air to the north will result in a snowy or wintry mix from South Dakota to the east into southern Minnesota.
