East Coast Braces for Multiple Storm Impacts This Week

3 hours agoThe East Coast is in store for a rocky end to the month of October. In addition to dramatically cooler temperatures, this slice of the country is also forecast to see the wrath of more than one storm system in the week ahead. Here is a look at what to expect for the last week of October in the eastern U.S.
East Coast in Crosshairs for Multiple Storm Systems This Week
Multiple storms currently brewing across the U.S. are set to impact the East Coast as the week progresses. All of this is happening as Hurricane Melissa continues to roar through the Caribbean and unleash mass devastation. While the U.S. is not expected to take a direct hit from Melissa, the immense moisture associated with this monster hurricane will likely amplify the rain expected for the East Coast.
The latest forecast models put Melissa on a path over Jamaica and Cuba before churning through the Bahamas. The timing of a non-tropical storm system moving across the southeastern U.S. will pair with Melissa's remnants to create a messy week for millions of Americans. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is forecasting that Melissa will journey through the western Caribbean, delivering life-threatening flooding and storm surge along with damaging winds.
The storm will then push into the Bahamas by the middle of the week, eventually tracking into the western Atlantic and close to Bermuda. This island chain should expect heavy rain and windy conditions by the end of the week.
As this is happening, the same weather maker that generated severe weather across the Plains and Gulf Coast region over the weekend will arrive in the Southeast. This will translate to a rough start to the work week for this corner of the country.
