East Coast Storm in Time for the Weekend
Christy Bowen
YesterdayWhile the newly formed Tropical Storm Jerry dominated the weather news in the Atlantic on Tuesday, forecasters are warning that the potential development of a storm closer to home could impact the mid-Atlantic by the weekend. Here is a look at this latest area of concern.
East Coast Storm Forecast to Develop by the End of the Week
A cold front pushing into the eastern U.S. by the middle of the week will contribute to the chance of a new low-pressure system forming off the southeastern coastline in the days ahead. Not only will the arrival bring down the temperatures across much of the eastern U.S., but it will also help to usher in a good chance of rain showers and thunderstorms for the mid-Atlantic and beyond.
The cold front is forecast to slow down and stall when it reaches northern Florida and the coastline of the Southeast. The frontal boundary is predicted to interact with the warm waters in this part of the Atlantic basin to form the emerging area of low pressure.
The models are still unclear about the precise track of this system and its anticipated strength. What is clear is that the mid-Atlantic region will be in the bullseye of the impacts through the weekend.
