The last few days of October are going to go out on a wet and chilly note for much of the country, spelling trouble for traditional Halloween festivities. Parade goers and trick-or-treaters will be met with frightful conditions over the next few days across many regions. Here is a look at what to expect in the waning days of October.

Forecast for the Northeast on Thursday and Friday

A 72-hour NOAA precipitation outlook highlights widespread rain across the Northeast and Pacific Northwest to close out October, with additional pockets of moisture along the Gulf Coast. (NOAA)

The upcoming forecast on Thursday and Friday will vary greatly from region to region and from hour to hour. A major storm system coming out of the Tennessee Valley and into the northeastern U.S. on Thursday will bring in several rounds of rain showers. The interior Northeast will also see the temperatures slide on Thursday. You can expect widespread readings in the 40s and 50s on this day.

It will be slightly warmer in the coastal cities of the Northeast. For instance, major metro areas such as Philadelphia and New York City will enjoy temperate readings in the 60s on Thursday. The mercury will dip slightly by Friday in these cities.
