The first wave of legal action surrounding the flooding tragedy at Camp Mystic began this week. Here is a look at the details of the lawsuits.

Families of Campers and Counselors Who Died at Camp Mystic File First Lawsuits

The families of two counselors and 13 campers who perished in the Fourth of July flooding disaster at Camp Mystic in Texas Hill Country filed the first round of lawsuits on Monday. The camp and its owners are being sued on grounds of gross negligence. In total, there were four lawsuits filed. Two counselors and 25 girls died when the rising floodwaters from the Guadelupe River roared through the cabins as they slept during the early morning hours on July 4.

Several of the youngest victims were sleeping in the cabins located closest to the banks of the river. In addition to the young girls and counselors, camp owner Richard “Dick” Eastland also died in the disaster. His family said that he was trying to save the girls when he was swept away.
