A mountain lion grabbed a 4-year-old boy while his family was hiking in Olympic National Park on Sunday, and his dad had to jump in and fight the animal off.

It happened near Victoria Overlook along Hurricane Ridge on July 20. One minute the family's enjoying a nice hike, the next minute a collared cougar comes out of nowhere and attacks their little boy.

Dad Doesn't Hesitate

People who saw it happen said the father immediately jumped on the mountain lion and pulled it off his son. No thinking, no freezing up - just pure parental instinct kicking in.

"I don't think that kid would survive if it wasn't for his dad jumping in," hiker Steve Murrow told local news. "He's a hero."
