The wave of cold temperatures bearing down on the eastern half of the country will also raise the threat of early-season snow for a swath of the Midwest and the East this weekend and into early next week. What parts of the U.S. may see the first snowfall of the year? Read on for the details.

First Snow on Tap for Millions This Weekend

A taste of winter weather is on the way for millions of Americans beginning this weekend. An influx of cold air will clash with a storm tracking to the east to lay the groundwork for accumulating snowfall across portions of the Midwest and the Appalachians. This same weather pattern will also bring a chance of lake-effect snow to the Great Lakes.

First up is a blast of cold air that will make it feel more like the middle of December than the beginning of November. The colder temperatures will become entrenched across the Midwest and the Northeast by the end of the week, bringing an end to the unseasonably warm temperatures. A southward dip in the jet stream across the central and eastern U.S. this weekend will fortify the cold weather and allow snow to form.
