The storm that ruined vacations and caused extensive property damage in Hawaii is now funneling its moisture into Washington state. While the impacts will not be as severe, it is going to be a soggy stretch of days for this corner of the country. Read on for the details and potential hazards associated with this far-reaching weather maker.

Pineapple Express Takes Aim at the Northwest

The Pineapple Express is chugging from Hawaii and into the Pacific Northwest. The term gets its name from its origin near Hawaii. Washington state and the southwestern flank of British Columbia, Canada, will bear the brunt of the storm. The atmospheric river will dump heavy rain across the region, raising the threat of flooding as river water levels rise.

This plume of moisture will stretch thousands of miles from the Hawaiian islands to the northeast into British Columbia and Washington. The heavy rain began to hit the region on Tuesday. Forecasters are warning that the atmospheric river will have a chokehold over this part of the Northwest through Friday.
