A NOAA rainfall outlook shows repeated rounds of heavy rain targeting a corridor from Texas to the Ohio Valley through early next week, raising concerns about flash flooding and rising rivers.

Meteorologists are growing more concerned with each passing day about the threat of flooding across the central U.S. in the days ahead. Here is what you need to know about these risks if you live in a zone from Texas and up into the Ohio Valley.

Forecasters Put Central U.S. on Alert for Flooding Risks

A flooding threat is unfolding across a large swath of the central U.S. as repeated downpours impact the region. Several rivers are expected to rise to moderate flood stage by next week as the rain continues to come down regularly.

The persistent waves of heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast to train over an area of real estate from Texas to the northeast into Ohio and the southwestern corner of Pennsylvania. The greatest concern for lives and property will be along small streams and urban areas prone to flash flooding. Minor to moderate flooding is also likely along rivers located in unprotected areas.

The rain line will move from the southwest to the northeast over the next several days, stretching along a corridor measuring about 1,500 miles. Thunderstorms are expected to ignite along the boundary between cold air in the northern U.S. and the warm, moisture-rich air coming up from the Gulf.
