To say that it has been a strange stretch of weather for the state of Florida would be an understatement. The Sunshine State is recovering from a record-breaking cold snap that resulted in snow flurries and falling iguanas. Here is a look back at the wild weather in Florida, as well as a peek at what lies ahead in the coming days.

Arctic Air Brings Record-Cold Temperatures to Florida

An unusually potent surge of Arctic air set the stage for light snow in several parts of Florida over the weekend. The sub-freezing temperatures resulted in many records falling across the peninsula as a monster bomb cyclone set up to the north.

The frigid weather pattern was a treat to residents wanting to see the rare sight of snow. Flurries were noted in airports in Jacksonville and Tallahassee by early Sunday. Even farther to the south, light snow was observed north of Tampa in the Gulf Coast counties of Hernando and Citrus. Although none of the snow showers delivered any significant accumulation, the mere sight of the flakes flying generated a great deal of excitement.
