The first signs of winter are headed to the interior portions of the Northeast by the end of the week, as forecasters also warn that much of the East Coast could feel the impacts of an early-season nor'easter before the weekend wraps up. Here is a look at what to expect in the days ahead for this part of the country.

Cold Air Filtering Down from Canada Raises Risk of Frost

It was just a few days ago that unseasonable autumn warmth was the story for the eastern half of the U.S. Widespread highs in the 80s were the story for the Upper Midwest and over into the coastal Northeast to start the week. But that is all changing.

The upcoming forecast is calling for a renewal of fall weather with even a hint of winter mixed into the conditions. A noticeable chill will grip a large swath of the interior Northeast beginning on Thursday, ushering in the first frost or freeze for the region in the overnight hours. A surge of cold air dipping down from Canada will be responsible for the dramatic change in the weather.
