The growing season is coming to an end for millions of Americans living in the northern tier of the country. The National Weather Service (NWS) field office in Duluth, Minnesota, is warning that frost and freeze conditions could kill sensitive vegetation and crops in the next few days. The cold nights could also damage unprotected outdoor plumbing, according to the alert. The NWS office in Grand Forks, North Dakota, echoed the warnings of their colleagues in Duluth.

After seeing overnight lows slide to about the freezing level overnight Tuesday, Duluth will see the mercury tick up a bit on Wednesday with highs in the upper 50s and lows that bottom out in the upper 30s.
