Frost Risk to Linger Through Mid-May Across Midwest and Northeast
Christy Bowen
3 hours agoResidents of the Upper Midwest, the Great Lakes, and the Northeast will need to wait a little longer to clear the threat of overnight frost. The long-range forecast points to a continued temperature roller coaster through the middle of May, with frost or freeze conditions possible Monday and Tuesday across portions of the region. Here is what to expect, where it will be coldest, and how to protect plants.
Up-and-Down Temperatures Continue Across the North
Steadier warm weather is on the horizon for the northern tier of the country, but it will take some time to get there. Waves of chilly air keep pushing south from Canada, keeping frost in the forecast for the next several days. Brief warmups will be interrupted by weak storms and cold fronts at least through the middle of next week.
The Northeast starts the weekend cool and wet. The Midwest gets a brief warmup, with Chicago climbing into the low 70s on Saturday before the next batch of cool air pushes across the Great Lakes.
The Upper Midwest stays chillier, as is typical for early May. Highs will run in the 50s near the Canadian border this weekend.
