Drivers planning road trips this Fourth of July weekend are catching a break at the gas pump that they haven't seen in years. Gas prices have dropped so much that filling up won't destroy your travel budget like it has the past couple summers.

Gas prices are expected to average between $3.10 and $3.15 per gallon across the country this Fourth of July, according to fuel tracking services. That's way down from the $3.49 per gallon people paid last year and represents the cheapest gas for the summer holiday since at least 2021.

If the national gas price average drops below $3.12 per gallon, it would mark the lowest Fourth of July gas prices since 2020 during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Good News for the Economy

These lower gas prices are one of the few bright spots in an economy that's been dealing with weaker consumer spending and lots of uncertainty from ongoing trade wars around the world.
