A pair of cyclones is spinning in the Pacific, with impacts expected beyond the initial strikes. Here is a look at the twin cyclones and what type of impacts they will bring long after they have dissipated.

Tracking Cyclones Sinlaku and Maila

Meteorologists are tracking two separate cyclones that have spun up in the Pacific. Super Typhoon Sinlaku is expected to threaten Guam early this week as the equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane as measured on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. The storm is presenting a serious threat to Guam, ushering in catastrophic winds and heavy rainfall capable of causing extensive structural damage and widespread power outages.

Sinlaku was churning near the island of Chuck Lagoon in the Federated States of Micronesia on Sunday. The storm is forecast to take a turn to the northeast and inch toward the island of Guam by Monday.

Conditions will deteriorate on Guam by the start of the work week. The most dangerous conditions are forecast to hit on Monday and Tuesday. Even if Sinlaku tracks a bit to the north or south as it approaches the island, Guam is still likely to experience typhoon conditions.

This forecast visualization shows the possible location of Sinlaku by Tuesday evening, April 14, with Guam near the storm’s dangerous inner core as conditions rapidly worsen. (Image: Wavemaps)
