A high wind event is forecast to unleash across the interior portions of the West and across to the High Plains beginning on Sunday and lingering through the early part of the week.

Here is what you need to know about the windy forecast.

Interior West and High Plains Brace for High Winds

Strong winds will be the biggest weather story across the interior West and the High Plains region, raising the risk of wildfire danger and potentially snarling travel.

Over a dozen states will be in the impact zone for these gusty conditions that could trigger localized property damage.

States in the line of fire include California, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Montana, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

The winds will be the result of a building storm system that is forecast to roar across the central U.S. early in the week.

The highly disruptive winds will be powerful enough to bring down trees and power lines, create power outages, generate potentially dangerous crosswinds, and increase the threat of wildfires in areas that are currently dealing with dry conditions.

Motorists heading out on interstates 40 and 70 will want to be aware of the risk of crosswinds. These crosswinds will be enough to produce wobbly conditions for high-profile vehicles.
