How does a hurricane form? Where do hurricanes happen the most?

Known as the most violent storms on the planet, hurricanes cause high winds and massive flooding. While they form near the equator, they can travel far away.

Hurricanes develop over warm waters in the Atlantic Ocean and the eastern part of the Pacific Ocean. If a tropical cyclone forms in the northwestern part of the Pacific Ocean, it is called a typhoon.

No matter where hurricanes happen, they are considered tropical cyclones. They can be devastating to any people, buildings, and animals in their path. Whether they are called tropical cyclones or typhoons, hurricanes are known for their immense power and destructive capability.
