Erin’s Track Brings Uncertainty to East Coast, Canada

7 hours agoHurricane Erin continues its march across the Atlantic, maintaining major hurricane status as it heads northward. While the storm is not expected to make a direct U.S. landfall at this time, its sheer size and strength mean that millions of people from the Caribbean to Atlantic Canada will still feel its effects in the coming days.
Erin’s Current Strength
Erin rapidly intensified over the weekend, at one point reaching Category 5 status with winds near 160 mph before weakening slightly. As of Sunday, it remains a dangerous hurricane with sustained winds strong enough to cause damage, widespread power outages, and hazardous conditions offshore.
Even with some fluctuations in strength, Erin is expected to remain a major hurricane for much of this week as it tracks between Bermuda and the U.S. Atlantic seaboard. The storm’s expansive wind field means coastal regions will feel impacts far from the storm’s center.
