Hurricane Gabrielle Still Alive in the Atlantic
Christy Bowen
5 hours agoThere is no shortage of tropical weather news this week as the Atlantic basin wakes up from its long nap. In addition to the two potential threats to the U.S., Hurricane Gabrielle is still alive and well in the Atlantic. Here is a look at where this storm is headed next.
Latest on Hurricane Gabrielle
Hurricane Gabrielle continues to hang on as a Category 1 storm as it races to the east at a fast clip of 31 mph. The storm is set to bring impacts to the Azores before moving into the southwestern corner of Europe as a tropical wind and rainstorm.
Gabrielle has weakened significantly from a Category 4 hurricane earlier in the week. This major hurricane skirted to the east of Bermuda before moving out into the open waters of the central Atlantic. The storm has picked up speed and is approaching the Azores islands late Thursday and into Friday.
A hurricane warning is in effect for the Azores, a group of islands that is home to about 250,000 people. The islands are also a popular tourist destination this time of the year. Forecasters are warning that the Azores should brace for several inches of rain and gusty conditions.
