Here is the latest on the tropical activity in the Eastern Pacific and how it may impact the U.S. by the end of the week.

Hurricane Priscilla Continuing to Grow as it Approaches Mexico

Hurricane Priscilla is continuing to gain strength as it moves to the north-northwest toward Mexico. As of the last update from the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Priscilla is a Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph with periodically stronger gusts. Priscilla is moving at a slow speed of just 7 mph. The storm is spinning about 400 miles to the south-southeast of the southern tip of Baja California.

The latest forecast models indicate that Priscilla will continue to intensify in the hours ahead before it finally weakens by the middle of the week. The center of the system is forecast to move parallel to the coastline of southwestern Mexico and Baja California. While the eye of the storm is not expected to make a direct hit on Mexico, its outer bands will come close enough to generate significant impacts.
