Increasing Climate Change Is Quietly Affecting The Unborn

Pregnancy already has many challenges. From the fragility of a fetus to the health of the mother, there are a lot of things that must go right for a pregnancy to proceed to full term. Increasing global temperatures and climate change pose an even bigger challenge to pregnancies that have gone very silent up until now. 

Climate Chaos Hits the Youngest Hardest

Pregnant women, newborns, and children are all part of the most affected groups by climate change. In 2023 alone, wildfires choked the air with smoke, heatwaves scorched continents, floods destroyed homes, and droughts decimated food supplies, all from climate change that has intensified already disastrous events. 

"Children’s futures need to be consciously protected," warned Bruce Aylward, Assistant Director-General for Universal Health Coverage at the World Health Organization (WHO). "That means taking climate action now for the sake of their health and survival."
