At least 200 million Americans are going to be impacted by a far-reaching storm that could intensify into a bomb cyclone in the days ahead. While the northern tier of the country may see blizzard conditions out of this system, much of the Midwest will be dealing with explosive thunderstorms and flooding rainfall. Here is a look at this dynamic storm system looming on the horizon.

Mega March Storm Could Turn Into Bomb Cyclone

A potent storm is shaping up to expand across the central U.S. and over to the East Coast by the end of the weekend and into early next week. The large system will impact millions of Americans as it advances across the central U.S. and into the Northeast.

Forecasters are warning that this weather maker could become a bomb cyclone as it feeds on moisture from both the Pacific and the Gulf. A bomb cyclone is defined as a storm with a central pressure reading that drops at least 0.71 inches of mercury in a period of 24 hours or less. The rapid strengthening of bomb cyclones naturally produces a powerful wind field that is capable of unleashing significant damage.

Dozens of states will fall within the bullseye of the high winds, resulting in the possibility of widespread power outages. Unfortunately, these winds are going to whip up just days after another windstorm roared down from the Rockies and into the Northeast.
