A late-week snow event could bring significant disruptions to parts of the Northeast, snarling post-holiday travel for those heading home. Here is a look at what to prepare for in the days ahead in this corner of the country.

Clipper Event Will Bring Widespread Snow to the Northeast by the End of the Week

Although it is not likely going to arrive early enough to deliver a White Christmas, a snowstorm bearing down on the Northeast could spell trouble for travelers. The storm is forecast to move into the region late Thursday and into Friday, bringing accumulating snowfall in a zone from central New York state and into New Jersey and Connecticut as the Christmas holiday comes to a close.

NOAA’s national forecast map shows a fast-moving system pushing across the U.S., with snow expanding into parts of the Northeast late Thursday into Friday as colder air surges south behind the front.

This weather maker is forecast to move along at a fast clip as it roars through parts of the Northeast. This system will feed on an influx of Arctic air to fuel the snow development. While the flakes are good news for the ski enthusiasts, the snow will translate to travel disruptions the day after Christmas. The snow is the result of a powerful Alberta clipper storm that is going to dive down from Canada and sweep through the Northeast.
