Latest Snowfall, Wind, and Coastal Flooding Predictions as East Coast Storm Intensifies
Christy Bowen
2 hours agoIt is going to be another weekend of wild weather up and down the East Coast. A new winter storm is threatening to deliver heavy snow, high winds, and coastal flooding beginning on Friday night. Here is a closer look at the expected timing and impacts of this whopper of a storm.
Bombcyclone and Nor'easter Bearing Down on the East Coast
For the second consecutive weekend, the eastern U.S. will be under the gun for a host of severe winter weather impacts. Forecasters are growing more certain that the storm will go through the process of bombogenesis, evolving into a bomb cyclone as it skirts the Atlantic coastline. The bomb cyclone will unleash significant snow, potent winds, coastal flooding, and the chance of blizzard conditions in a zone from the Carolinas and up into New England.
The resulting power outages and travel disruptions could persist well after the storm ends. Winter storm warnings are now in effect for portions of the southeastern U.S., in addition to the island communities off the coast of Massachusetts. These two areas are predicted to see the worst of the conditions.
A new surge of Arctic air is also diving down from Canada and into the Upper Midwest, exacerbating the already life-threatening weather.
