2 hours agoJust when you think the snow is over for California, a new threat is on the way. Forecasters are predicting that another storm will roar into California and up into the Pacific Northwest by the end of the weekend, adding to the already eye-popping snow and rain totals. Read on for the latest details of this moisture-rich forecast.
Several Feet of Snow Recorded in California Mountains This Week
The onslaught of snow is not letting up anytime soon for the California mountains. The Sierra Nevada has already picked up over 90 inches of snow over the last week, as the latest forecast models signal that more is on the way. The next weather maker coming in from the Pacific is expected to arrive late in the weekend and into early next week, bringing a fresh wave of torrential rainfall and heavy snow for the higher terrains.
The next system will push farther to the north, resulting in more pronounced impacts for Northern California and into the Pacific Northwest. This is in contrast to the storms that impacted Southern and Central California earlier in the week.
The 72-hour snowfall total for the Sierra Nevada from earlier in the week was something to behold, ranging from a bit over a foot in the southern portion of the mountain range to almost 8 feet in the central and northern portions. Business will be booming this weekend across the area ski resorts. For instance, the Central Sierra Snow Lab reported a whopping 92.5 inches of snow over the past seven-day period.
