Latest White Christmas Forecast Sparse on Snow
Christy Bowen
2 hours agoYour updated White Christmas forecast is here. The prospects for a magical winter wonderland on the big day are starting to dwindle for most of the U.S. Here is the latest on what parts of the U.S. are in store for a White Christmas, as well as where the existing snowpack is likely to melt away.
Why Most Americans Will Not See a White Christmas This Year
Meteorologists define a White Christmas as when there is at least 1 inch of snow covering the ground on Christmas morning. This means that it is not officially a White Christmas if you wake up to no snow on the ground, but the flakes start to fly in the aftenroon.
At this point, only the usual locations across the higher terrains of the West, the Upper Midwest, upstate New York, and northern New England are expected to have their typical White Christmas. This includes the higher terrains of the Sierra Nevada, the Cascades, the Rockies, the northern reaches of the Upper Midwest, the northern Plains, the Great Lakes, and much of New England.
