Storms to Track Farther East This Weekend
Relief is on the way for the building drought conditions in the Southeast and beyond. However, that relief will also carry the risk of flooding and other severe weather impacts. The storm has already wreaked havoc across the southern Plains and the Mississippi Valley.
A Flash Flood Emergency was issued on Thursday for the community of Menard, Texas, when 9.2 inches of rain quickly fell on this part of the Lone Star State. Significant flooding spread throughout the town, prompting the closure of several roads. While some homes were flooded, there were no confirmed injuries reported.
This system is forecast to generate storm activity and heavy rainfall for Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama through late Friday. The primary dangers will be torrential rain capable of reducing visibility on the roadways in an instant. Forecasters are also putting this region on alert for damaging winds and large hail.
